Video: Exploring Haarlem's Gems: St Bavo's Cathedral, The Frans Hals Museum & Quaint Boutique Shops
The historic city of Haarlem is a highlight of our cruises in Holland. We spend a morning visiting sites such as the Frans Hals Museum founded in 1862 with its vast collection of Old Masters. Other highlights include St. Bavo’s Cathedral on the main square, where both Handel and Mozart played the magnificent Muller organ, or there is free time to visit a fine selection of boutique shops.
Visit the Grote Markt: This is the main square in Haarlem, surrounded by historical buildings, cafes, and shops. You can enjoy a drink or meal at one of the terraces, explore the St. Bavo’s Church, or simply soak in the atmosphere.
Explore the Frans Hals Museum: This museum is dedicated to the works of the Dutch Golden Age painter Frans Hals. It houses a vast collection of his paintings, as well as other Dutch and Flemish art from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Shop at the Gouden Straatjes: Haarlem is known for its boutique shopping streets, collectively known as the Gouden Straatjes, or “Golden Streets.” These charming lanes are lined with unique shops, boutiques, and specialty stores, offering a wide range of items.
