Classic Cruise - Avignon to Marseillan

ITINERARY*

Sunday, Day 1, Villeneuve les Avignons

Guests are met in Avignon* and transferred by private chauffeured minibus to Anjodi. Enjoy a chilled champagne welcome with canapés and the opportunity to meet your crew, followed perhaps by a relaxing stroll along the towpath. Dinner on board.

Monday, Day 2 Villeneuve les Avignons to Vallabregues

After breakfast we tour the famous Chateau Neuf du Pape commune and enjoy a private wine tasting at a renowned wine maker. Following lunch on board, we cruise downstream on the Rhone River to our delightful mooring at the little town of Vallabregues where there is time for an alfresco game of boules before dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3 Vallabregues to Franquevaux

This morning we explore the medieval city of Avignon, climbing the many steps to the Rocher des Doms, and strolling through the Papal gardens before a tour of the 14th century Palais des Papes. After lunch on board we head downstream, passing the fortified medieval town of Beaucaire and the citadel of Tarascon, and mooring at Franquevaux. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4 Franquevaux to Aigues Mortes

This morning we visit Arles, the city famed for inspiring over 300 paintings by Van Gogh. Explore the 1st century Roman Arena, St Trophime’s Basilica and the museum of Provencal life and stroll the pedestrianized sleepy heart of this old Camargue capital. After lunch on board we cruise to our mooring at the ancient walled city of Aigues Mortes. Tonight’s dinner is served in a local restaurant, specializing in dishes of the Camargue.

Thursday, Day 5 Aigues Mortes to Villeneuve les Maguelones

After breakfast on board, we head into the city to climb the 12th century defensive Constance Tower, originally built by Charlemagne in the 8th century. Our more energetic guests may wish to walk the one-mile circumference of the town on the parapet of its walls, affording spectacular views. This afternoon we cruise past the beautiful pink flamingos and white wild horses of the Camargue National Park. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6 Villeneuve les Maguelones to Marseillan

Our morning cruise takes us across the Thau lake to Villeneuve les Maguelones, passing Frontignan swing Bridge en route where we may well stop for a Muscat tasting, before reaching our mooring which is just a short stroll from a Mediterranean beach.

After lunch on board we tour the 12th century Cistercian Abbey of Valmagne, renowned for the medieval medicinal herb gardens and some simply stunning architecture. There is perhaps time for a stroll around the lovely lakeside village of Marseillan, or a brief tasting at a local seafront oyster farm before the Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

Saturday, Day 7 Marseillan

After breakfast, guests are transferred by private chauffeured minibus to their choice of location in Narbonne**
